The Sprinter is equipped with a 2.2L 85kW diesel engine and a six-speed manual transmission from Daimler, and the vehicle is equipped with a four-wheel-drive system. Based on the above information, Zool chose a direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor with a rated power of 50kW and a peak power of 100kW, which can cover the peak power of the original diesel engine. Moreover, the maximum output torque can reach 700Nm, with a rated speed of 1700 RPM and a peak speed of 4100 RPM.
Obviously, this kind of direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor is not suitable for connecting to a gearbox with a large speed ratio. Therefore, considering the balance of speed and torque, Zool removed the manual transmission and connected the motor directly to the driveshaft. After all, there is a main reduction ratio of nearly 3:1 on the retained rear axle, which can increase the final wheel torque output to about 2100Nm, which is absolutely sufficient for the vehicle’s travel.
Before installing the new electric system, it is necessary to determine the parts that need to be removed, as follows:
- The old diesel engine
- The old transmission system and transfer case
- The power steering, brake pump, and air conditioning compressor driven by the fuel engine
On the other hand, when installing new electronic components, the first thing to consider is how to fix these parts. Unlike the original parts that have mounting interfaces matching the original vehicle chassis, new parts often require new brackets for support and fixing. So, after fully measuring the size (he had to calculate the size needed after all the accessories were installed, so that the subsequent stacking of parts would not be insufficient), Zool custom-made a parts bracket locally to support the installation of the new assembly.

- The battery pack in an electric vehicle typically has a high – voltage output. For example, the battery voltage of many electric vehicles may range from 48V to 800V. However, different components in the vehicle, such as the low – voltage electrical systems (usually 12V or 24V), require a stable and lower voltage supply. The DC-DC converter steps down the high – voltage DC from the battery to a lower, regulated DC voltage (12V in this case). This allows it to supply power to components like lights, infotainment systems, and various sensors that operate on a lower voltage standard.

If you want to keep clutch, you need modify the spline coupler to clutch a bit. Because we do not have car in hand, so we bought a old transmission without clutch to make the coupler and adapter kit.
